kay dillard bio

Date / Place of Birth – I was born on September 18, 1954 in Macon, GA.  I lived there until around the age of 30 when I moved to Athens.

Places lived – I was born and raised in Macon, GA where I lived for most of my life until at age 30, I moved to Athens to work on my doctorate and lived there for 30 years before moving to Hull in the fall of 2014.

Education / Experience – I received a B.S. degree in education from Georgia Southwestern (Americus), a Masters degree from Mercer University (Macon), and a doctorate in administration and supervision from UGA. I served as a teacher in Macon for 9 years; a teaching graduate assistant at UGA for 4 years; a curriculum specialist, assistant principal, then principal in Oconee County for 11 years. I later served as principal of Auburn Elementary School (Barrow Co.) for 6 years before retiring after 30 years of service.

Salvation Experience – My mother’s family was Catholic and my father’s family was Primitive Baptist, and I was raised in an Episcopal church where I confirmed my faith in Jesus at age 12.  Upon moving to Athens, I joined a non-denominational church where I was convicted to wholly dedicate my life to Christ as His disciple, was baptized, and received the infilling of the Holy Spirit.

Spiritual Experiences – Missions is my heart. I have traveled on and/or led teams on mission trips to Germany, Mexico, Jamaica, Nassau, and the Dominican Republic. After moving to Athens, I attended Living Faith Fellowship/Church of the Nations for 17 years serving as the Christian education coordinator, young adults’ ministry leader, and youth ministry leader. While serving in youth ministry, we took teams on mission trips to Jamaica and Mexico. Later, I served as Missions Director at Christian Life Worship Center, leading mission teams to Mexico annually to build churches, renovated dorms at a pastoral training school, distribute food & clothing to remote villages, preached, and teach VBS. Later, the Lord called my husband, Mike, and me to start a church in west Athens. In 2012, the Lord led us to join Crossroads Church.

Favorite Things about Crossroads – When the Lord led us to Crossroads, my husband and I immediately sensed the Spirit of God at work here. My favorite things about Crossroads are Pastor Morris’ preaching, Pastor Chris’ style of praise & worship, and the caring congregation here. We knew we had found a special church home!

Family members –  I’ve been married to Mike Dillard since 1996. Together, we have a blended family of my two children, Mary Katherine and Trey, and Mike’s three daughters Mary Carroll, Betsy, and Sharon. Mary Katherine is married to Adam Spence and Trey is married to Brittany Damron. Mary Carroll is married to Taylor Murray and Betsy is married to Ben Bahnsen. Mike and I have a combination of 14 precious grandchildren! I am blessed that my mother born in 1923 is still alive. My father passed away in 2002 from Alzheimer’s; a brother passed away in 2016 from throat cancer. I have two other siblings, Jay Cranford and Sherry Weeks. My husband and I together have four loving dogs.

Hobbies – In my younger days, I loved to ride my motorcycle, water ski, snow ski, and pitch in church league softball. As I have grown older and wiser, my hobbies now include tennis, fishing, swimming, and coin and stamp collecting.

Secret Ambition – One of my secret ambitions is to see all the lighthouses in the United States before age 75, and to go to Israel. One of my not-so secret ambitions is to spread the Gospel, build churches, and help eliminate poverty in third world countries.
